What size monitors should i get for small room?

Hi, I need to get some monitors for mixing down my music in a smallish bedroom. Im confused as what size to get. Smaller would be better for me to save space. but I was told by one person to not bother with 5 inch and get 6 and above as you get more solid sound...

... but then another shop said they have some ProdIPE Pro5 active studio monitors which are only 5 inch and this is better for smaller spaces as it doesent swamp the sound and give too much bass? they also said these are the best monitors at my budget of £200

i was originally going to get the Alesis M1 mark2, or the fostex pmo.5, i didnt know which was was best but now im even more confused ?

please help,.. THANKS

Depends on several things, size of room, ratios, acoustical treatment, placement.
I would think that a pair of Dynaudio's BM-6 should work just fine, or something similar.
But yes large monitors in a small room might not be able to respond completely.

What's your budget?

I hate sound like a broken record, but I find my Focal Solo6's to excell in my 14' x 11.5' room. I have excellent bass & mid translation and have zero fatigue after hours of mixing. My best investment ever!

Thanks for the replies
My budget is £200
my bedroom i haven't measured but about 15 x 10 feet.

Its not set up as a recording studio or anything, i wont be treating the room at all. Its just for me to be able to mix down more professionally than using headphones. I will be getting it mastered professionally at a mastering studio after its mixed down.. just really confused wether o get 5 or 6 inch as ive now been told different things

The biggest you can afford.

The small room = small speaker analogy never worked for me.

If you want to hear what's going in the low end you need a big speaker. A small room won't help you.

Yet, what's true is that big speakers work better in bigger rooms, which doesn't mean they can't be useful in smaller ones.

I get the best results with big monitors like 15" or 2x 12" (which is obviously not an option with your kind of budget) and something like NS10's or small ATC's in tandem (not at the same time of course!). The big ones for the low end and the small ones for the overall balance.

The worst results I get with small monitors that try to sound big.

But then there are people who can get perfect mixes on Auratones and/or NS10's only. Everyone's different. Find out who you are through experimenting and not following.

On a budget I would go for PMC TB2S+. But I'm afraid it would be over £200 with a decent amp (very important!).

£200?? (scratching head)

Rather than freaking out about what size of monitor you should get, why don't you concern yourself with finding a monitor that provides you with the information you need to make good decisions.

Anyways, that's just my personal opinion.

If your goal is to mix "more professionally" I don't see how that's possible without at least some acoustic treatment. You especially need bass traps in a room that size.
