Impressive. He went from a Baby Bonham to a Budding Bozzio. At 11 I was about the level he was when he was 7 or so (which is a dramatic difference in age!). I started quite a bit later on full kit, and I doubt I ever got to where he is now. But if I have a kid that wants to play, hearing protection is going to be an absolute non-negotiable. I have a slight dip in the upper mids in my left ear from having a hihat over there for a few thousand hours or so. It would have been worse had I not had a habit of looking at the hihat (probably in response to the pain). It doesn't really affect anything I do, and my hearing is probably a bit above average for my age because I've been using hearing protection religiously from about 18 on. But still. Forget it. Not worth it. Especially with a little kid. Get the Vic Firth (gun range) cans, or the Hear-oes foam inserts, and make them use them or hang up the sticks. |

Agreed on the hearing protection thing. those drums must be so intense on a 2 year old's ears.

Yes he's an amazing talent but it seems like he grew up playing one long drum solo... which are awesome...for about 6 seconds....or 5. He's basically more skilled at 11 at drums than I am at any of the dozen or so instruments I play but I still I'm not buying Yngvie records. On the flip side, I think it's pretty funny/sad that Meg White will probably make more from being a drummer than this guy ever will. fuuck Too bad that talent couldnt be honed into, say, picking stocks.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of hearing protection... Kinda dangerous for 2 year old.... Hope the kid gets to be famous....And rich

More disturbing than the lack of hearing protection is the increasing number of toms and stick twirls as he evolved! The kid can make noise alright, but can he hold down a groove? Not a critique, but I hope in his practice schedule there is time to slow down and just enjoy the simpler things. Who was it here that said that if the drummer can't do his thing on a 4 piece kit... |

These clips tend to focus on the impressive and showy, not necessarily the actual groove and musicianship. Look for Shawn Lane clips on YouTube and you see nothing but haulass, for example, lol. I think that kid is pretty tight. Great drum sound too :thu:
