Oktavamod MK 319

A Michael Joly modded Oktava MK319. Nothing else will ever be this good. Ever. Don't listen to anyone else. It is the best 400 you'll ever spend. Do it.

There's no such thing as the best mic for every vocal. Each vocal track will be different and a different thing will be required in different mixes. That said, if you give us an idea of genre, vocal style etc of the singer you ave in mind, you'll get more sensible suggestions to try.

I was kidding..kind of.

I agree. I was kidding. You'll get 1000 different answers. I like the MK319 for real; but it is also the nicest mic I've ever had...so..yeah. Take it with a grain of garlic.

Rock vocals -- SHURE SM7b + decent mic pre
Delicate Vocals -- one of those Blueberry mics (I used one and it sounded decent), or an AKG414.

I would get the SM7b and a decent mic pre, like a DAV BG-1. This combo works GREAT for me.

Good luck.

yeah man listen to them. different mics for different people and occasions. I have a Rode K2 and I love it but that's just me. a lot of people will give you advice on what to get. if you have access to a studio with a lot of equipment, you should go ask them if they can do a shootout for you and see which sounds the best to you.

What do you own now?

What would you change about that mic, to make it the best for what you do?

That will get you more useful answers.

Very Broad Mic

When looking for an all around mic I would suggest the Rode NT-1A (~$200). It is a very clean and pure sound. The color that you would add would be your PRE or COMP.

How about a AT4047. A good all around mic. The 414 is not my go to mic but certain times its awesome. I would get a new AT4047 and a used AKG414. Then you have options.

May I also suggest an ART toob pre as well.

I wouldn't suggest a NT1 as a pure mic either...but I did manage to record music with it and a Mackie.

I recommend _______ as your next purchase.
