My favourite drum track....

Hi, anyone heard/remembered/noticed the old song by Tina Arena called "Burn"?

Everytime I listen to this song the drum groove just hits me and sends shivers down my spine. If there is a all time favourite drum track for me it would be this song.

Anyone has any idea what made the "sound" of this drumkit? I love the way the whole kit sounds, the way they are compressed, drums tuning etc. Stuff like what snares, toms, kicks were used would be interesting even as trivia. Who played the drums on this one anyway? Was it a sessionist from Australia?

What about you guys? Any favourite drum tracks?

Tina Arena....

She was a one hit wonder over in the UK with 'Chains', don't know that track of which you speak.

My favourite drums on a recording are the intro from Scentless Apprentice by Nirvana, recorded by Steve Albini.

Lots of people can whinge about his style but I think that section kicks ass.

And it's Dave G...gotta love Davey G.

Cheers,
Rich

Hey

I'm kind of freer this week than usual

I heard a rumor about some bands playing too at Wedgewood

Fancy a fizzy pop?

Or, I could just come and check out your facility during the day.

Then I can make sure you haven't turned into whoever is your new avatar

I love 'Barracuda', 'Message in a Bottle' and 'Home At Last'.
Just bought the DVD 'The Making of Aja' WOW it's amazing to watch those guys, if you into drums get that DVD, Rick Morrota(sp?) and Bernard Perdie(sp?). Badass! Rick is so groovy it hurts.

when i think bad ass drums obviously the first thing that pops in my head is anything zeppelin. Outside of that-

matt chamberlin- anything from the new tori record
tori amos- precious things (dont know who the drummer is)
genesis- no reply at all
van halen- anything from 1984
any sting record with vinnie

drum sounds

Anything by Pantera has the most slamming drums. I heard that Vinnie, their drummer, is behind alot of the drum engineering. I also dig the deftones sound on the last 3 albums. As far asl lighter stuff goes, I say Steely Dan just gets awesome tones everytime, as if no one knew that....

I got the chance to meet and mix Purdie about a week and a half ago. He came and sat in at the club while I was mixing FOH.

Damn.

Damn.

A lot of the stuff Dave Grohl plays on sounds good. Same with Matt Cameron. I guess being a kickass drummer doesnt hurt.

Just to mention Bernard Purdie again...

as Pretty Purdie.. the song "Soul Drums".. A classic. I've loved it since I heard it on AM radio as a young kid. I had to pull my car off to the side of the road when I first heard it as a sample in Beck's "Devil's Haircut".

Another favorite is James Brown with Bobby Byrd: "Since You've Been Gone"... ... sick.
