My point was this at the moment your gear inventory looks like the shelf i any GC and you have one nice single chain I want one really nice money cahnnel when recording a great sonic wow factor mic and2 channels of comps I can use tracking, mixing or across the 2 buss! See I don't try to get bizz for my room, I would rather freelance because I don't feel I am well equipet enough to call my operation a studio, but at least twice a month I end up in someones bedroom who took an add out somewhere with similar gear (if not the same) and I find my self running home and grabing a rack with the following Dan alexander 2ch (neve) pre Adl 1000 comp 2 dbx 160s 2 api 512 2 api 560s and my ilok if were tracking I'm always craveing as many quality mic choices as possibe And the questeds are always there because trying to get work with something like the 20/20s is like trying to go head to head with Mike Tyson! IF your partner diggs his 20/20s keep them but try finding something that offers a clear view of things (I like the BM5s but your going to need a sub and the one thing 20/20s do give you is bass not great articulate bass but bass). The thing is uf your recording others you got to get rid of the "$hit why are wasting all are money here when we can go to GC or ebay and get the exact same stuff" factor. oh and the BLA mod gives you pres in your 002 that most would rate higher than your focusbrite and you wil most likely prefer the sound of the modded 0002 with out the central station (the converts sound closer to my lavry DA10 than a stock 002)

You raise some really good points. It took a bit of time, but the locals have come to realize that it's the engineers making the recording sound good, not the gear. The problem is that outside acts won't be able to agree with that. I'm not sure how much we can realistically afford right now, but I definitely agree that we should be stepping everything up a bit.
