Thread Starter | To all ATB owners: configuration
Hi, I've bought the ATB 32 and I'm currently thinking about how I'm going to configure things. There are quite a few different inputs and outputs that could be brought up on the Toft. Which inputs and outputs did you bring up on the patchbay? I'd like to do my compression/dynamic range control inserts in Logic "pre-fader" so that my fader automation won't be interfering with the compression. This means EQ inserts after the fader automation on my ATB, and all FX sends off the ATB, as well as sub group bus compression and summing. How would you do this? What does your patchbay looks like? Best regards, Amstel

Ahn? Well, the signal flow on the ATB (I assume that it is similar to all of the consoles I've seen in my life) is: input stage to EQ stage to channel insert point to pan/fader to Auxes (some can be switched to pre-fader, post-EQ and insert). The pan/fader stage outputs to the routing matrix. Unless there is a way to internally change the insert points to pre-EQ. So a regular patchbay configuration would be: row#1: your multitrack (be it analog or DAW) outputs and other sound generator outputs; half or full-normalled to row#2: console line inputs then row#3: channel and group insert point outs half or full-normalled to row#4: channel and group insert returns Then you have the group outs normalled to the multitrack/DAW inputs, the direct outs brought to patch jacks, the aux sends can be normalled to the cue system, the FX returns and "spare" auxes also brought to the patch bay. Other rows and spare patch points are used for the inputs and outputs of the ancillary gear such as EQs, dynamics, reverbs and so forth. The console will operate in "post-DAW-fader and automation" mode.

Thanks for your answers so far! I've half quoted the following from Fletcher (he stated this on the psw forum); I'd like to do my compression/dynamic range control inserts in Logic "pre-fader" so that my fader automation won't be interfering with the compression. This means EQ inserts after the fader automation on my ATB, and all FX sends off the ATB, as well as sub group bus compression and summing. I'm still trying to understand how I can do this... All outboard compression will be used pre fader in Logic without using the inserts on the console? In short; hardware compression in logic and Eq+subgroup+fx on the atb? How would I configure this on the patchbay? Best regards, Amstel |
