Sennheiser MD421 "internal bass tubes"? huh?

Does anybody know what the "internal bass tubes" are?

I was just reading the MD-421 PDF spec and it mentions them, but it does not elaborate other than they somehow make the low end response more accurate.

Here's the spec sheet: http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/pdfs/md421ii.pdf

I would assume that there are internal cavities (tubes, as in toilet paper tubes not vacuum tubes) that help shape the sound of the mic.

Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking too. Some kind of resonance chambers maybe.
It just seems strange that there is practically no technical information about this MD421 feature anywhere on the net.

The AKG D12 (also the D30 and others probably, too) had a similar system.
