Thread Starter | does this make sense? A/D converter question..
hello, this is really the first time I've posted a general question to any of the forums. I'll try to make it as clear as possible as not to waste anyones time. I've got a DAW I like. I've got a 16X2 mixer I like. I have a motu 192 HD. I have a selection of outboard mic pres compressors and eqs. I typically record one or two tracks at a time I was thinking that my next purchase should be a really decent 2 channel A/D converter. that way I could improve the signal in during tracking and then during mix down I could run the final mix through it. does this seem logical? If the answer is obvious I apologize. thank you. Mister |

after making sure your room is treated well...it's a good logical next step... you'd probably also wanna get your hands on two channels of D/A so that you can better hear what you are working with... you mentioned running through the A/D again for final mix are you mixing through your board??? if so...you could benifit from more channels of D/A... consider that you'd be recording with the good2 channel A/D...then using your motu d/a to convert to digital, then converting back with to analog with the good converters... |

ahh! orksnork. you found my blindspot. You are absolutely right about having those 2 channels of d/a. gotta get that final stereo mix back out of the computer! And both of you are dead on about the monitor setup. My setup is not ideal but I've got it to the point where I can create a mix, take the resulting track to a friend's house and when we play it back it sounds close to my studio memory. took a lot of tweaking to get to that point. |
