I've also been wondering what works better. the auto tune hardware or software.

the hardware isn't quite as good any more. the software has been given improvements and updates that the hardware hasn't.

Plus the hardware is a little noisy.

Hardware is like the auto mode of the older versions of autotune. You wouldn't be able to use graphic mode, which most would agree is the best way to use autotune transparently.

Tuning software isn't like compressors and eq's, hardware is not better. I love melodyne and couldn't do without it. The hardware works ok if that's your only option, but you really need to try out Melodyne because it will amaze you. I used to have a hardware piece and once I got Melodyne it went up on ebay quick. cam |

I've used both Melodyne and Autotune in software form and I reckon both are pretty equal in terms of their performance just depends which interface you prefer. I think I'll always go with auto tune just because I've had more experience of it and therefore find I get the result I want quicker.

you absolutely do not have to use 'auto' mode with the hardware. Target notes via midi control is how you do it. Draw a midi track and send it to autotune, its even easier than using graphical mode.

If it's the one I am thinking I had around 97 or so. It is not near as good as the newer software. It had a small screen and you could choose the key and all I remember was like in the key of C the screen displayed C D E F G A B C. The newer versions are much more improved. Never used Melodyne ATR-1 It cost me $700 at guitar center. GT. |
