Can i use my hafler with these radio shack speakers?

With the intention of picking up a pair of minimus 7's, I bought this Pro co speaker switcher. I just realized that the radio shack speakers seem as though they say 40 W max @ 8 ohms. My hafler gives out 60W @ 8 ohms. Can i use it to power them or will they blow up?

I won the auction for this speaker selector, but if i have to use a different amp, I have to get a line level selector. any suggestions?

thanks,
Brandon

dont worry be happy

I wouldn't worry about them blowing up unless you either crank it all to high heaven, or if you are playing clipped (super-distorted) music through the speaker. Basically, be civilized about it and the speakers should treat you the same!

I don't think they'll get cranked. I'm just going to use them to switch to every once in awhile during mixdown to check a balance. I don't monitor super loud, so as long as moderate levels don't hurt them, I'll be in good shape.

thanks for the advice,
Brandon

I've blown 3 sets but they were hooked on some Bryston 4Bs. Why don't you get a line switcher and a cheap amp (radio shack). After the third time I BOUGHT A PANASONIC BOOM BOX that has it's own amp and a CD level input, from the board a normal line attenuator cable works fine. I take them where ever I go, even before taking expensive mics. it's my real world comparison. I used to run my NS-10s through a Bryston too. It's funny how good even shitty speakers will sound through a good amp. For the Minimus 7s this may not be the case.

i already got the speaker selector so i'll see how it works.

regarding the line level switcher, what would i use to switch. I have seen talk about the presonus unit, but i don't have confidence that it wouldn't affect the signal. What are you using to for line level switching?

I've been running my Minimus 7's off a Samson Servo 240 which is about 120 a side at 8ohms so at four it's maybe 140-150 a side. It's good match, plenty of headroom but maybe a little too much juice. Since I started doing that I've fried a couple of tweeters and I never did that with the lower powered amp. Ah well...cost of doing biz. The only problem is that I just installed my last spare tweeter which brings me to the next question.

Does anyone know where to get spare tweeters or know which Rat Shack part # is a direct replacement?

The speaker selector switch i got is a Pro Co RMS-1. it's at power amp level. I can't seem to find a decent line level switcher that won't break the bank.
