What do your clients want to hear when being recorded?

What do your clients want to hear when being recorded? I know this varies from person to person, and also between eg. drummers and singers - but what's the most common requests? Just hearing themselves loud enough? Reverb? I sometimes add reverb, and sometimes I add some EQ/comp as well, but that's mainly to increase the level a bit.

(In the poll, by 'Dry signal' I mean Dry signal only: no EQ, compressor or reverb.)

What I let them have... thats what they get! The most comon requests I get are for more reverb from singers but the poorer players sometimes want more things to hide behind or to drown everything else out!

It's odd, but most people I record could care less about reverb. As long as they don't experience latency they are happy.

It's usually different for everyone.

The band I'm working with now, when doing vocals, prefer to have just acoustic guitar and dry vocals in the cans. It let's 'em focus on the harmonies the better.

MORE CLICK PLEASE! (I'm surprised it wasn't an option)

Some people are picky, but the most common thing they ask for is reverb. I actually tell them "no" and explain why I prefer listening to the dry performance.

They want what they brought to the party.

They spent a lot of money on their gear, time on preparation so they know what they want (if they are pro's).

Have you ever heard them say, "please, Mr. Soundman, can you make it sound like when I play over those 2 speakers?

The last thing they want to hear is, " I know I just met you, but I have a black box than can make you sound better than you really are".

Reality: the ultimate gimmick.

I said other....
They want more and more Treble....
Especially on guitars.
Why?
Because they've started to like the quality of MP3 files....
I guess.

Treble... that would be EQ, wouldn't it?

This is an ultimate "it depends" situation. With more experienced players, just give them what they want. And always run a separate cue mix.

I get vocalists that are perfectly happy with dry vocals, a couple that like a little reverb, and some that like to SWIM in reverb.
