Tascam 388...tell me

I found a 388 at the local shop,
It has a few issues which need to be addressed, but he was willing to go down to $225 as-is without much effort...im sure he'd go further if I walked in there cash in hand, but this seems like a 'fair' price.

It most certainly needs new belts, (as well as a good cleaning of the rotating and heads).
Hitting playback will engage everything properly, you can hear the motor moving but there is little movement on the tape. RW works fine, FF does not, in each case

* For refrence, in my hurriedness I couldn't find proper image:

Sound like a fair price considering it needs some sweat equity? He would warrantee everything else but the motor/rotating...

wouldnt be my choice mate. for 8 tracks.
n potential maintenance headaches n cost etc.
lots of used pc's around for 150 buks (dont bother with celerons.)
put reaper on pc for unlimited tracks.
only limited by the power of the pc....(minimum you should get 30 tracks..)plus u get oodles of fx included.
just an idea.(see cockos.com for rpr details.)
