| full compass catalog ? Is it just me, or did the new Full Compass catalog, that I recieved the other day, include a remarkable (both VERY extensiveand also upscale) collection of microphones? I've been receiving copies of their catalog for many years and there were always a few higher end models (U87) mixed in with the project studio stuff. But the catalog typically highlighted whatever was the 'hot" inexpensive line and the usual listing of project studio standards that are probably steady sellers (MD421, TLM103, 414, etc.) In addition to carrying brands that I do not remember seeing in the catalog before (Coles), they aren't just listing the big sellers from these companies, but also the rarely seen, low sales models. This catalog includes the almost unheard of large D condensers from DPA, along with their more popular models, as just one example of the unexpected listings. (how many folks out there actually own one of these things?) None of this is earthshattering news, but it did lead to me spending more than the usual 2 minutes flipping through the catalog. Its not perfect, I think that they left out two of the 8 capsules available for the BLUE bottle; and the other catalog sections were not as comprehensive as the mic section. But when you consider that B&H is advertising their massive 2 volume catalog as the gear "bible" of the industry, I was surprised to see a much more complete listing of mics in the Full Compass book.

| Just a quick plug for full compass. I am in no way affiliated with them. I used to order a lot of cable and connectors from Markertek. Markertek constantly screwed things up, sent the wrong items, decided to substitute out of stock item with things they thaught would just be "OK". When you call, you talk to a secretary who knows nothing about what she is selling you, other than entering a part number into a computer form that she has in front of her. When they screw up, they do very little to fix it in a timely manner. Long story show, I am installing a console and I needed to buy cable, lots of it. I called full compass, they matched markerteks price which was a tad lower, the guy I talked to is asigned to me as my salesperson (like sweetwater, but no used car sales guy here), he knew that the hell I was buying, shipped it that day, I had it 2 days later. Due to my screw up, I ordered too little cable. Called him back, he remebered me like I was the only guy he dealt with (try that with mail order!), and sent me 2 more rolls. They are pre packaged large rolls that ship each in one box. UPS screwed up the shipping, sent me one package, and the other wound up in chicago. UPS had no idea when it would actualy get to me. When I called Full compass, he told me to tell UPS to just reject the package, and full compass OVERNIGHTED me another roll of cable. Didnt even charge my card. They didnt screw up, UPS did, but they went above and beyont to make sure I had what I needed. Im Sold. |
