Apogee Ensemble with....

I need pro tools for an upcoming project. Which digi hardware would best utilize the ensemble? I don't necessarily need that many ins/outs. Also, which way of connecting the two units would be the "best"(sound, stablity). Analog to optical, coax to analog, or coax and optical etc...? Maybe this would determine which one I got. I'm stumped.

Thanks in advance.
