Look for Studio in San Diego

Hi all, in San Diego with a friend who has a band right now, they're a blues rock band, with drums, bass, guitar, vocals and harmonica.

They're looking for a studio to record, preferably with a Neve console (or Neve-like preamps), Neumann U47 and some outboard (1176s for sure and LA2A's if available).

So far I found Golden Tracks studio which seems to meet many of the requirements:
Welcome To GoldenTrack Studio's Website!

But if there's someone here that has a studio that has better gear/pricing, I'd be glad to recommend a fellow board member.

We're looking at 12 tracks to be recorded. Let me know if you have a studio you recommend.

Mark "Robb" Robinson,
Sounden Studios in San Clemente

surely one of the most impressive collection of good recording stuff!
a vintage Neve filled with 24 Wunder PEQ1 etc.
looks pretty much to be a dream studio for indie/rock type of stuff

...haven“t met them in person, but learned a lot from robb years ago on forums & emails, really nice guy!!

I second Robb's place ( my home base) but it's in San Clemente.

Signature has a Neve sidecar, but will charge for it's rental ( api legacy is the primary in A)

PM Robb. I think he's got some time in August. Fantastic room, and my fav.

And to add all of these folks are really nice people, none of that LA attitude crap you get up north.

Warning, you may not want to return home if you get comfortable here!

Signature is definately cool.
Studio West is more of a "mix" place to me. I do like the room though and have done at least 10 sessions there tracking my drums.
My favorite is Big Fish. I LOVE that room and the equipment is great, too. Paul W. the owner, is a great guy to deal with.

Thanks for the great recommendations! The band is checking out Big Fish and Signature. If anyone ever needs a recommendation on Toronto studios, I'll be glad to help

i forgot about bigfish. when i was in san diego it was always semi-private. but anyone i spoke to who worked there said the room sounded great.. really great. i worked w/some producers on string/choir sessions at studio west. always sounded great but they brought their own outboard to track thru.

i was present for numerous string/choir sessions at signature sound as well.. but that was before they made their room bigger by getting rid of one of the iso booths... several years ago. they have an API legacy in there now i think and still have all the other outboard pre's etc. lot's of flavors for tracking.

anyway- i suggest visiting each place you are interested in and see what draws you in. there's lot's to choose from and lot's of nice people to help you out.
