Digidesign Digi 002 Rack FAULTY

my friend has got a faulty 002 rack that he says is faulty
it powers up but is now seen by any computer
has anyone heard of this problem before and kno if its easily fixed

i kno its a long show but worth picking your brains
as he is prepared to let it go for next to nothing
+ would be a cheap way for me to get brushed up on my pro tools skills again

thanks

has he tried it on a mac? some pc firewire cards aren't compatible (assuming you post should read "NOT seen by any computer"

my 002 is faulty too if any one recognizes the symptoms? (sorry about the thread hijack, I was going to start a seperate one, but perhaps together we can acheive more). Channel 3 just has a a loud (constantly peaking) buzz like digital distortion coming through both the mic and line inputs.

PIES... you may want to head over to the digidesign user forums (duc.digidesign.com) and search for "power harness." Apparently the computer not recognizing the device is related to a potentially faulty ribbon cable inside the device that oxidizes over time.

Digidesign use to send out new power harnesses to individuals who were comfortable to do it themselves. It is not a terrible difficult fix.

good luck!

I had this problem with my 02 start when I switched to MAc Mini from an 867 - G4. Switching programs would cause the computer to stop seeing the 002.

Contacted digi and they sent the replacement power cable harness which didn't fix the problem.

Haven't gotten back to them yet, but I'm guessing in my case its the Mac Mini that's the culprit somehow.

Good luck

My understanding is that Digi will replace the power harness for free. I'd give them a call and see what they say. Also, as I mentioned earlier, read some of the threads regarding the harness issue so you can familiarize yourself with the symptoms. Good luck

Anything can be fixed. It's just how much it takes to fix it.

i just had the same problem with my 002r, and it was the power harness. just call digi's FREE support line (even if your 002r is out of warranty). when they start asking for your registration info just tell them you have an out of warranty 002r that is having problems with its power harness. they will stay on the line and continue to help you for free. they'll ask for the symptoms to make sure the power harness is the problem, and then ask you for your address. you should have the new part within 1-2 days (free part with free shipping) with installation instructions (very simple). my 002r works like a charm now! good luck.
