What is YOUR ABSOLUTELY BEST/Favourite PREAMP & MIC Combo You used on vocals?

Simple question.. Your number ONE combo to use on female and / or male vocals?

I just ordered a portico 5012 and a ME1NV together with a Studio Vocalist to beef up my own mic and preamp arsenal.. Cant wait to get the new goodies and mix and match with the existing mics and pre´s and get some vocal sessions going.. ;-)

lets hear it you slutz.. YOUR TOP COMBOS PLEAASE! ;-)

U47 Tele - 1073 - CL1b,
although last week I substituted a Forssell JFet pre and got a fabulous sound with that particular vocal. So, who's to say for sure?

U47 or U67 (depends on the mood that day)
Neve 1081 or 1071 (no EQ)
Summit TLA-100 ( a couple dB is all you need)
Fader to ride gain to tape.

ALAWYS source dependent, but if I've never worked with the singer...:

Brauner VM-1 > Chandler TG-2 > Urei/Tele LA-3 > Purple MC77.

I know you didn't mention compression, but I wouldn't leave home without it - YMMV. The above can be clean, edgy, thick, velvety - you name it. Lots of flexibilty to achieve whatever you need.

peace

I use the only combo I've got,

U87 with InerTube Audio mod, AT4060 or EV RE20, Pacifica, 1176 clone or HCL Solution.

I couldn't tell you the last time I had to record a female singer!

Gefell UM900->1073->Blackface 1176->AD16x

Neumann U48->Tab78->La2a->AD16x

AKG (1985 the tube)->1073->1176->AD16x

Neumann U87->BA1272->LA2A->AD16x

SOUNDELUX E47c->Avalon 737->1176->AD16a

Pearlman TM1->1073->la2a->AD16x

Some times I love the "Blue Mouse->737->1176" combo.

Different colors for different kind of singers, some times just a 58 sounds great.

In my wish list: U67, Akg C12, Brauner VM1, Wunder CM7 and C800 G

Best regards.

geeeeenerally speaking:

Female:
Gefell UM92.1s in fig-8 through Chandler Germanium (smooths out the brightness of the Gefell nicely) through a Cranesong Trakker.

Male:
Soundelux E47 through Chandler LTD-1 through Cranesong Trakker. Our E47 is still locked cardioid from the factory... haven't gotten around to unlocking it... anyone have a variable E47 that can comment? Does it change the stock cardioid sound, because I do love it as is...?

I got a lot of compliments from a track I recorded.

Male vocal -

Mic Neumannn M149
Mic pre amp 1073
(I forget the compressor, it may have been a Distressor)

But the singer was great and delivered a fantastic tone right from the start.. so that was half the battle over right there... He was an amazing singer - the high quality gear just gave it, er.. a 15% extra "edge"

I´m hoping the crowley and tripp vocalist and the portico 5012 will give me atleast 15% "quality boost" aswell.

e...

;-)

Im surprised not many are using AKG´s.. I love my C 414 B-XL II.. Had a Jazz singer over this weekend and she sounded FAB on it.. Ofcourse she sounds FAB anyways.. ;-)

I've been diggin'

Male or Female:
CM7>LTD>1176>La2a>16X

Sometimes I replace the CM7 with my 251E or LTD with a Pacifica.
