Smile Thermionic Culture News

Thermionic Culture update.
Hi, my name is Kevin Walker I run Unity Audio in England. I'd like to
let everyone know on Gearslutz, the official line on Thermionic Culture
valve, or 'toobe' products if you're in the States, as I've seen quite
a few of you writing in about the gear which is great, but there seems
to be a bit of confusion about certain aspects etc.

Thermionic Culture aren't exactly a new company, they were founded
about five years ago by Vic Keary, Unity Audio got involved just over a
year ago to handle exclusive global marketing and distribution, and
help in coming up with new product ideas. So it may seem that it's a
new company, as previously Thermionic haven't ever really branched out
of the UK, but now Unity Audio have been busy over the last 12 months
or so with reviews, marketing, web sites, exhibitions, and establishing
dealers around the world. So far there are two products, the Phoenix
stereo vari-mu compressor, and the Culture Vulture stereo distortion
unit. The next product to be released will be the Earlybird mic pre, (Jules owns an earlier stereo version) there will be a two and four channel version with EQ, exact details tba, if Vic the designer ever settles on spec's and features, ( please note, the Earlybird shown on the web site might not be the finished version). A mastering EQ and ultimately a valve console will be on the
cards too.

There is a dedicated web site, www.thermionicculture.com, which has product brochure pdf's, reviews, users, Vic Keary and Thermionic
history, which is well worth reading as Vic has been in the business
since the late 50's as a designer, engineer/producer,and studio owner
and toobe guru, international dealer locations, which are being added
to. If you don't have a dealer in your country and you're interested in
hearing the gear, please email me at sales@unityaudio.co.uk, if you have any questions please post them here, I plan to check in regularly.

We will be attending the AES show in Germany and we will be on our
German dealers booth, Brauner Microphones. We'll have all the gear
working and able to listen to , hope to see you there. Oh, cool T
shirts have been done and will be on the site soon.

Cheers
Kevin Walker

I've been excited about the Thermionic Culture line since I first heard about it almost a year ago when Jules mentioned how well he liked using the Earlybird with his Royer SF-12 (I think that is how it went, anyway). Thanks for keeping us posted Kevin :-)

Yes the SF 12 & Earlybird work very well together.

Also some very experienced voice-over people who worked at my studio found it to be the best pre here to pair with an M149 for male voice-over work.
