bass trap placement

As far as bass trap placement goes, if you use a tubular one, should it be directly in the corner up against the wall or spaced about a foot or so away? I'm just trying to get an idea of what it does to the sound both ways. Any advice would be awesome! thanks!

Tight in the corner. I also suggest you experiment with placement while measuring the response and ringing. You'll learn a lot in less than half an hour!
