ordering from sweetwater

if you had $2600 to spend on a preamp/ch.strip at sweetwater what would you get?
the pre will be used strictly for vocals with a akg 414TLII, blue kiwi and perhaps a peluso 251 until i get the bock 251

BTW, i can get a liquid channel for $1200... would you get it(ppl that have actually used it)

Sweetwater has a pretty big selection of gear granted, but are you stuck ordering from them? I'm guessing you might have returned something to them and have credit to burn?

If you've got the cash ( no clue if sweetwater sells them as I don't deal with them much) is to get started on a 500 series lunchbox setup. There's a ton of cool modules out there right now.

I mean if I had $2600 to blow at the moment, I'd get an SCA kit with the A12 and the N72, then get some eq (haven't decided on that yet, but I keep being tempted by the Speck ASC-T EQ), and a distressor or MC77. Get RNC and RNL while you're at it, and you've got some great and flexible gear for the money. I've never been one for the super slutty 3000 EQs and compressors myself, mainly as i just see the money being spent better in other places for the average studio, and that's never in my person budget for a single piece.

i'd love a 500 luchbox, with a-designs,buzz,api and a few other pres in there but i don't see a lunchbox or 500series units on sweetwaters site..

They have A-Design.
It's more than enough to spend all on 500 format

Sweetwater carries all kinds of fancy-schmancy pro gear now. A-Designs, Chandler, Manley, Great River, Crane Song. A bunch.

No, I don't work for them.

The GT Vipre is awesome on vox. I use it with my Soundelux Elux 251 all the time. great combo.

I love Sweetwater and I've been doing business with them for many years. I truly believe they have the best support in the industry. Anyways, my first choice would be the Focusrite ISA 428 ($1699). For the remaining $900, I would get the Sytek MPX 4ii, but you can't get them from Sweetwater. If you want to get one of the best, most versatile mic pre out there get the Groove Tubes Vipre, but remember it's only one channel.

See if they can order you a 500 series rack, im sure they can, if not get the new behringer 660 its based on the fairchild design, it has 98 tubes and goes for 300 dollars!

I might suggest an LA-610 (One 610 channel pre and a modified comp based on the LA-2A)($1499) and a Chandler Limited Germanium ($1099). Two good pres and a good sounding if limited compressor... the LA-610 is a great sounding bass box IMHO, also does well on vocals. The Chandler is good for guitars and heavy male vocals. I think this would be a versatile pair.

I seem to recall that Sweetwater was at one point talking to API about selling their stuff, maybe that has progressed. Or I could be wrong

i also think they should be able to get you an api rack. actually you should get one free when ordering four modules. the p1 is fantastic for vocals!

Kyung Pang, I like your thinking,

but someone told me today that my Syteks are no good. Funny, they sound just as good as my Trues, Millennium, Benchmark, but hey, what do I know.

I like the idea of coupling it to the Focusrite as you suggested.

Agree with the above posting- chandler ltd plus distressor sounds like the way to go!

That being said, the voxbox is looooovely.....

i'm really liking the vipre

Kyung Pang mentioned isa pres, but i already have isa pres.. so don't need anymore.

Just to follow up,

People talk smack about the voxbox, but everything I've ever heard it on blew me outta the friggin water. Outside of the Pendulum, I feel it's the best all in one strip out there.

If you didn't like the ltd-1, why go to the aurora? They're both definitely in Rupert's little family. If not related, then at least second cousins...

it wasn't mine... i ran the studio . i was the head engineer.
personally right now i have:

Blue blueberry
Blue Kiwi
Peluso 251
Peluso 47Le
414 TLII
U195

to replace the sound i got with the c800(the 251 isnt far off) i'm gonna get a Manley Gold Reference. which imo beats the c800g in every aspect.

a manley vocal chain would be damn near perfect for me. Manley Gold Reference > manley voxbox... i guess i could pay the difference between the voxbox...

Why go with the aurora. overall just the pre sounds better to my ears. plus having the aurora compressor on the strip is a major plus.

Sweetwater guys are nice and helpful sure.

Just regarding thier price on a recent basic rig purchase of HD3

They quote just over 16K
Another quoted just under 14 K.

So do your pricing first is my advice.

i have something there that i've been dealing with for years. he breaks down prices for me.SHHH don't tell anyone

i was gonna buy a Hd1 with a control24 and a 96i to have a Pt rig again.. don't wanna spend that much money cuz my nuendo/sonar system sounds so better at a fraction of the price. but i need PT support again and i don't want an LE and need 7.1 at least... plus i really want a control 24 or a procontrol since i have experiance with them
