Any praise for Killswitch Engage's last effort?

Is it just me, or is the production on As Daylight Dies kind of remarkable? Everything manages to sounds huge, but maintains clarity – the album has balls for days.

And am I loosing it, or does the album not sound like it's been crushed to smithereens?

I think it sounds great. IMO metal is the hardest genre to really get right, and I don't think this disc could be improved at all.

What have your guy's impressions been (from an execution standpoint)?

I've found their new recording to be excellent as well. I like metal that has "happy" chorus, and i think kilswitch is like that. I got hooked on their stuff after hearing "My last serenade"--the new stuff is along that vein so i'm really into it.

Anyone know of any bands doing stuff like them?

I think the vocals are way too low. Other than that, it sounds great. I know they get crap for "abandoning their hXc roots", "going all metalcore" and all that, but I've loved them since I got a live boot back before AOJB. Adam has become an incredible producer.

"Arms of Sorrow" is just a great f%$king song.

Balls was my first impression!

And it's anthemic/concept album spin after spin.

Looots of reverbs/delays!

Indeed! He's got it down.

I borrowed that cd from a friend and am refusing to give it back.

It's not exactly a direct answer to what you're asking, but I've gotten nuts with the agony scene's 2003 album, engineered/produced by adam.

I had never heard too much of this band before I heard one of their latest singles on the radio and saw a video of them live on one of the late shows. Loved it and grabbed up the cd the next day. I think the singers voice is amazing when he's actually singing in some of the choruses, though maybe its the style of the music but alot of the songs all sound like the same song for me after a while.

The guitars sound great and I thought the vocals were too low as well.

Adam D makes great records, and not just for KSE.

Andy Sneap mixed the previous two wonderfully, as well.

I used to think to think this but after a while, you become more aware of differences. The same is trus of any genre. Classical. East Indian – it sounds homognous until you absorb enough to form points of reference.

For the last album, there was no Sneap – just Adam. I'm sure he learned a lot from tracking and mixing the previous two albums with him though.

Man, I agree 100%. Like any genre, there are conventions that get overused, or whatever, but even though all Opera sounds the same to me, I can tell Skinless from Dying Fetus most of the time

I loooooove Howard's other band, Blood Has Been Shed. thumbsupthumbsupthumbsup

I liked his voice better over their music as well. I wonder if he has any new projects...

As far as production for the album, i feel that is what they should sound like, it represents their vibe and sound very well
