Thread Starter | Good distortion plugin for parallel distortion? I want to start experimenting with using parallel distortion to add another dimension to my mixes but I'm not really sure what the best way to do this would be. I use Waves Renn Comp for parallel compression duties but I'm not sure what plug/hardware would fit the bill for parallel distortion. Would sending an aux out and overdriving a mic pre achieve this effect? |

| Izoptope trash is nice for this job also camel audio do a little free plug in that is dirty SSl do the free LMC compressor that is trashy.I would however experiment with the Mic pre it may do the job just right.Your gonna get laods of opinions but you really should just experiment as quite often the unexpected creates the magic I find there to much of " to it this way etc " being experimental keeps us fresh. |

| You can use the Waves Ren Comp for distortion....crank the gain and leave the threshhold alone....then use a gain plugin to adjust your levels. Otherwise, just about any distortion plug in will do. Cranking a pre amp works as well. Sherman filterbank is ace for this, as there is a clean/distorted mix knob as well as 2 filters in serial or parallel, so you can really hone in on a specific frequency range to saturate. |

| do you guys dig the massey over sansamp plug. i have used that for years and still like the way it sounds, but I really question it's delay compensation accuracy

| Lives for gear | Sanamp plugin. Works great for drums, but I don't feel that on guitar it sounds at ALL the same as using the real PSA-1 as outboard during a mix. Not at all. Even my girlfriend at the time could tell the difference immediately on the same settings.

| I like the distortion I get using the Massey Tapehead (cheap). Also, Izotope Vinyl (free) in combo with BF1176 (free w/ PTLE) can give you a strange "vibey" distortion, though it's not a growl (if that's what you're looking for). dj |
