If you're not fussy about how the shockmount looks, try those thick rubber bands they put around broccoli and other veggies in the supermarket!
Cheap and good and they come in the groovy colours of red and purple.
Plus you get something to eat at the same time.

Or go to your local hobby or fabric store & pick up a supply of a few different kinds of elastic. And always keep a variety of rubber bands, velcro, & duct tape around just in case.

Yeah, I'm pretty much anti-vegetable. It's part of my theology. I'm a meat-a-tarian.

actually, those rubber bands are what i have been using. I was just hoping for a more elegant solution.

Me too, when eating meat, you know that it is dead when you eat it. With vegetables, you know that it is ALIVE! Yuck!

I found a great replacement. Go to your local Walgreens (or other large drug store), and in the hair care aisle there are the bands that people use to hold back ponytails, they are called "Scuunci". I've replced the bands on 3 separate shock-mounts, and they work great. And the best thing is they are cheap... I think about $4 for 25 of them.

Let's get pro here

Industrial kind of guy that I am, I went the rubber gasket route. I first got the notion from Harvey Gerst, who suggested going to an auto supply place for gaskets.

Maybe they have better selections at auto joints in Texas, I had to go to an industrial gasket supplier. Said vendor had an enormous selection in zillions of diameters and circumferences, as well as different materials. I stocked up on gaskets for my Neumann shock mounts. I find that the commercial industrial rubber gaskets are far more durable and resistant to ozone damage and stretching than any cloth covered rubber products that I have seen.

Somehow I feel more secure knowing that my gasket/shock mount bands came from an ISO 9000 certified supplier than Walmart. Much more moist pro. You're trusting $3,000 microphones to hair care products?

Whatever gets you through the night.

Happy hunting.

gee

WHEN, I mean WHEN will someone make replacement bands that actually work? I have an ADK Super mount and ADK replaced them for free but the ones they sent me are horrible and with a little pressure snapped apart. Not the same quality bands. Why? What's the big deal. Gee's people, we bought your mics and paid large $ for them,. Don't you guys want your products supported properly?@#$%!! Frustrated is a word I'd use here. Still looking for replacement band for that mount and not hair crap care products!

update: I emailed ADK, those guys really want to help. They will send me a new batch of something different they're using. Will let ya know how they stack up.

Ditch it and get a Rycote - that's what I did. No contest.
