| Fireface 800 Owners I am running Logic Pro 7.2 and want to route drum tracks out of my computer, through my Fireface and to my Distressors. Then of course, I want to put it back into Logic. I've never done this. How do I do this? I know I have to do it in the Fireface mixer software. Beyond that, I'm scratching my head.

| Ok, I've figured most of it out on my own. Now I have a new problem. Let's say I have an audio instrument in Logic. Let's say Battery for example. I route the output to 3-4 of my Fireface, which then goes out to my Distressor. Then when I route it back into the Fireface. My newly processed signal is now on inputs 3-4 of the Fireface. I get the newly processed signal back in on a new audio track. However, I'm now hearing the layering of both my Battery/source/dry track and the new/processed/wet audio track that has been put through the Distressor. When I try to mute the Battery/source/dry track, it also mutes my new/processed/wet track. How can I get Logic to ONLY play the new/processed/wet track that is being run from the Distressor and mute the Battery/source/dry track. It's really hard to dial in my dynamics on my Distressor when I'm also hearing the source track at the same time.

| It's only natural. When you mute the channel you are cutting off the signal that's feeding your distressor. You either have to do an hardware insert or have a board where you have multiple tape returns. I don't know if logic lets you do an hardware insert. never used it. |

| In the fireface mixer, select outputs 1-2 by clicking on them (bottom left) These should only have outputs 1-2 from the software (middle row of faders) routed to them. It sounds like you also have 3-4 routed to them. Turn the faders down. Next, click on 3-4 in the bottom row of faders, and turn up outputs 3-4 from the software (middle row) to 0dB. Turn down all other faders. This should work. Finally, if you arent using software monitoring then you need to send the return inputs to the monitors (which it sounds like you've figured out how to do |

| Here's a screen shot of both the Fireface mixer and Logic. I kind of understand what you're telling me. But I figure a visual explanation will help you confirm what I'm doing (just in case I'm not explaining myself well). ![]()

| Gear interested | There's an insert plug-in in Logic. Thats the proper way to do it. Or you can do: 1: route the original audio stream to 3-4 (distressor) 2: Hook distressor to inputs 3-4 3: Inside Logic route inputs 3-4 to output 1-2 (which is supposedly your monitors?) You shouldn't be hearing anything else but the signal from distressor. EXCEPT if you're routing input 3-4 to output 1-2 in the RME totalmix. To check this press the output list in the totalmixs output row (middle one) and click 1-2. Now all the faders show output to 1-2 and only the 1-2 faders should be up. |

| I tried the insert. When I turn the output of Distressor down, I still hear a signal. Shouldn't I hear nothing if I did it right.

| Gear interested | Okay. I'm almost 100% sure the problem is in the RME Totalmix. open it and press X. You should see matrix. Think your signal flow. My guess is, your'e routing something wrong there. |
