Thread Starter | How to make money in the Audio Industry? Not a recording engineer.
So where is the money in the audio industry? I already have it set out that I don't want to be a recording engineer. Are there any 9-5 jobs out there working in the audio field? Anything? I definitely love recording music, but I sort of have it set out that I will set-up a home studio in a barn or something off the side of my house as a second job. Is post production for video/tv just as bad?

Get a real job. Become a plumber or electrician (or both) and make some real money. If you want a home studio on the side, don't choose audio as your day job. It'll take all the fun out of it. And there just isn't that much oppurtunity to make good money. (And for everyone with the business skills to make good money in audio, they could probably do muuch, much better for themselves in some other industry). Art for art's sake.

Biggest money maker would probably open up a drug/alcohol/stupidity residential rehab clinic with a small studio in it...

depends on the gig and the show. the guy next to me does the footsteps of the shows with a midi controller and batery 3. al day looong. that one sucks though. i get to mix the music an fx and i can hear what works and what doesnt with the scene. melody, rythm etc. so im not far of from makin music. and also i get health insurance, free lunchs, free beer, 401k and a posibility of getting my work out there in some movie by meeting film poeple. plus the guy next to me is also one of the best sub25 salsa piano player. he has post as daytime job and really good gigs at nights and weekends. and we sometimes work on music or talk all the time about it and work on his projects also. | |
