LP used to beg my old band to open for us in LA in 99 when we'd sell out the Troub and Whisky.....we always said no......I did a few gigs with them again in 2000 and 2001 when they were on the way up, and they were always really nice.

Sure, Linkin Park are not a good band. True, their fan base is comprised of 14 year old boys with no taste. I suppose they're "good-at-what-they-do" (making music that tasteless 14 year olds really like.) There's nothing overly negative or cynical about such comments.

On a personal note. I noticed that Andy Wallace had his NS-10s mounted with the tweeters positioned inwards. They were clearly too far apart, so that seems entirely necessary to me.

A few months ago, I did the same thing at a studio, where the stereo image was entirely too wide at mix position... Everyone who came in said "Ummm... Hey man, did you know those speakers are BACKWARDS? Did you know that man? ...they're like totally backwards. Here, I'll help you move them!"

It's nice to get some validation from another engineer who isn't a moron. Thank you, Mr. Wallace. Incidentally, I can sympathize with you. I have to mix crappy bands sometimes too.

See, everyone gets to rant.

God i wish more clients realized that they will never have it perfect sometimes, the quote about getting to a point and letting it go is sooooooooo right on.

I imagined andy wallaces voice to be way more lumberjack-y.

Right now they're hot, but in ten years they will be about as timeless as Vanilla Ice. I don't care how many records they've sold. They suck. If we measured greatness purely on record sales, we would be doomed. Billy Ray Cyrus sold a lot of records too. I just think it's a waste to watch Andy Wallace mix such crap.

Their music is the same formula every time. They have like 10 guitars and 5 unison vocals going on during the chorus. Then they have some upper middle class white rapper talk about really positive cliche crap during the verse. He raps like he has gone through struggles or something. "Yeah, when I was younger I wanted a Benz, but my parents bought me a Honda instead. I have struggles yo." I never liked it when 311 did it. Linkin Park does it worse. The thing about the rapping that pisses me off the most is that it's in an insult to rap in general. Whether you like rap or not, we can all agree that it came from underpriveledged black neighborhoods and (like the blues) was about trying to make something out of nothing and promoted expression from the soul. When I hear the "rapper" in Linkin Park rap, I want to vomit. I want to punch them. I want to punch their fans even more. How do you egg on a turd? You actually buy Linkin Park records and are straight? Are you sure you can listen to a verse of a Linkin Park song, like it, and not make out with other men? Yes, I went there. Die hard Linkin Park fans suck. You actually keep that band is business simply by having no taste.
now thats going a little far. they're just a bunch of goons that have really big egos, and take themselves too seriously. I don't think their jet should crash, nor would I think the world would get any better if it did.
people love that music.. just like people loved vanilla ice (as you pointed out) and buttrock/hairmetal. its weird, I know. but looking back on it, Ive liked plenty of music that i look back 10 years and say "why id I listen to that?" sometimes its only 3 years.
I've also played some pretty lousy music. (thankfully I never took myself that seriously, and never had that rockstar ego)
So While I will call linkin park, a bunch of Bozos, wankers, or Goons. You gotta keep in mind its coming from a huge Dork.
