What's the vocal processing here?

Hi guys,

I'm just a home studio musician but I would really appreciate if one of you pros could take a listen to this band, stepsonday and tell me what sort of vocal processing/tracking is going on there, in your opinion. Is it an LDC or dynamic mic, for example? It's got that upfront indie pop feel that I have but can't match exactly and I'd love some assistance. Thank you very much!

That first track, "1234" has the vocal sound I like (as do most of them). Is is just the vocal doubles? Also, am I right in assuming that there's some slight distortion/warming and that the vocals are being sung quite softly?

Yeah, I hear double tracking too. Done well though. I dig the band too. Reminds me of Nada Surf a lot.

as everyone else said the vocals are tracked more then once. Aside from that i bet there wasent much more happening here then just some eq and compression from a good EQ (maybe a vintec) and a good compressor ( maybe something like a Empirical Labs - Distressor) to tape.

I can tell you since I made that record that it was an AT4047 through a Jensen modified Dynamix 3000 input module, compressed with a Daking Fet Compressor. 2 of the newer tracks on the record were done with the Daking Mic Pre instead of through my board and it's a little smoother but I still like the distortion you were speaking of. With the soft manner in which Jason sings, you need to crank up the front end of the mic pre which gave that nice grit. Other than that, just some double or triple-tracking, EQ and UA Plate 140.
