Shure Beta 91 in a kick. Your thoughts?

I have never used on of these mics. Any experiences? Live and/or in studio thoughts would be awesome.

Live they rock. Nice, fast, crisp attack that cuts through a mix. Very even response across the entire spectrum too. Haven't used it in the studio yet...

I use it in combination with a Beta 52 or D112 here in the studio. More than often it makes it to the mix and sometimes it doesn't. I just blend to taste depending on the song and style.

At first I didn't like the sound of the 91 but it was because I was judging it by itself, so after a few tests I began to like the sound (combined with the 52). I would say that it gives a little push to the kick sound, a little punch. Many times, if I mute it, I miss it.

So now, I always mic the KK with both mics. Then I can decide in the mix how much of that sound I want.

Here are some samples:

Here's a picture of the volume used on the blended file:

Hey thank for the help and effort with the samples. It does sound junky on it's own in that clip. But it definitely sounds good on the top when added to the other mic. I do have trouble getting that toppy kick sound. I don't personally like that sound. I also think kick drums are mixed far too loud in both album and concert mixes. I know I am not the norm on that though.
