Kjaerhus gone to Challenge/Response

Not happy! Another software vendor choosing to piss off his paying punters.

I suppose it's about time I bought a decent hardware limiter then ...

What does that mean? I was thinking of buying some Kjaerhus plugins based off how much I enjoy their Classic plugins. The Classic limiter is pretty dang good.

The Classic stuff is a bit old now and crunchy sounding.

It's the Mastering series MPL-1 Limiter that i'm concerned about. It's my second favorite software limiter (Voxengo Elephant being #1 with a bullet). This has just been replaced with MPL-1 SE (Second Edition). But the only new feature I can see is that the authorisation now requires challenge/response.

Something worth knowing about the Kjaerhus stuff is that once you purchase an authorisation file, you can't just unlock the demos. You have to know the dowload URL for getting the full version - and I was caught out by losing the email that contained this. This becomes a problem when you upgrade your PC - you might have carefully saved the authorisation files, but you still can't get the full version.

They seem to have gone to a user account that requires a password - and when you put in your huge code you can then download the new version - but there is the additional hurdle of getting a challenge/response file if you don't connect your music PC to the internet. And if you upgrade, you will have to contact the developer and beg.

I used to be a huge fan, but i'm just getting tired of all the hoop jumping involved. Voxengo generally be the major competition to Kjaerhus, and generally better sounding products. IMO, PSP is even better again, and I really like their User Account dowload system, offering simple registration key or iLock options.

I'm just sorry to see this whole issue of simply using the software you have already paid for becoming a massive complicated headache ...
