Arrow Upsampling (conversion): what to do?

Hi everybody,

I have a bunch of 48k/24 bit files and need to upsample them to 88K/32 bit for a test project. I do not have the option to retrack these files. I was wondering what is the best solution to perform this task. Any input would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

-Farshad

Most software has some sort of SRC build in, quality varies.

Since you need 32bit, I assume you're using Cubase or Nuendo (as little other software handles 32 bit files as there isn't much point in it, almost all convertors don't go further then 24bit). So, I guess you'll just have to use the SRC features of Cubase or Nuendo if you already use one of those DAWs.

Hi there,

That is correct. I am a Nuendo user. I actually do not use 32 bit personally. It is for a friend's project. Have you tried Nuendo's SRC? I also have access to Sound Forge 8.

Cheers

I dunno by mind if SoundForge handles 32 files as well or not, but if it does, you could do a quick comparision of what conversion you prefer between SF and Nuendo. Since it's for a one time project only, I'd stick to the software you own already. Most likely they'll do a fine enough job.
While something like Saracon will yield better results, buying a dedicated samplerate and bitdepth convertor makes more sense if you do this kinda of stuff daily.

SRC in Logic is (surprisingly?) pretty good.

But I'm not sure if it does 32 bit.

Yeah, 32bit is not possible in Logic.

You could go to 96K 24 bit by doing a "save copy in " in PT. Set it to copy the audio and set the new session at 24 96K. no 32 bit files with thta route tho. Are 32 bit fiels really that much better? I am thinking there are deminishing points of return at those levels.
good luck.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Voxengo's R8brain. It's free and gives great results.
The paid version has also linear phase mode.

Hi,

Very interesting. I will give it a try tonight. I hope it does batch file processing as well.

Cheers
