Monitoring Help - Tracking

Tracking vocals with an Apogee Ensemble and whenever I'm monitoring the vocals it sounds like there is a phaser or doubler on the vocals.

I am assume this is latency? Didn't think it would be that bad? How can I help this because it becomes annoying for the vocalist in their headphones.

I am using Cubase 4. Is there any sort of routing I can do or something. Under my setup it says I have 8ms of latency.

Make sure theres no output on the track you are recording to.

you're probably hearing the signal thats being sent back on the main outs from cubase as well as the direct monitoring from the ensemble.

hmmm - the only thing I am doing is enabling record on the track and then pressing the little speaker icon for monitoring.

is there a way I can turn that off?

i know i have separate headphone channels on the Ensemble. i don't believe i have set them up...? do i set them up under Outputs?

When you press the speaker icon in cubase, you're turning on software monitoring. You don't want that on. I'm sure your Ensemble has direct monitoring...check your manual.

So I guess I need to disable Software Monitoring in my Maestro control panel.
