Analog Crossovers

Hi all,

I've been looking at purchasing some BSS FDS-360 crossovers for my live system. How do these fair against the new DBX 223 or DBX 234 units?

The BSS crossover looks like it's got a bit more phase control and looks a bit sturdier built.

Has anyone had experience with any of these units?

If anyone has suggestions for another good quality crossover I am all ears!

Cheers!

havnt had much experence with them but the BSS do seem nicer.

that said why limit your self to an analogue crossover, digital crossovers seem to of come of age now and you can pack in alot more into a single unit, but of course its one part of an entire system.

What are you looking at? The "FCS" from BSS denotes an equalizer, while the "FDS" denotes a cross-over....

Cheers tINY... had made a typo there - corrected it now.

Yes, it was the BSS FDS-360 Crossover with Limiters that I have been looking at - I know of a few secondhand units for sale in reasonable condition.

Hey aussie_techie,

I agree, digital processors have come a long way over the last few years...

I was keen to keep this system analog throughout - everything else in the system is at the moment and I do generally prefer that analog sound...

There are some exceptions though - some of the new Turbosound gear for instance... really is impressive!

If you want a c ertain sound, you may want to stay away from the BSS stuff with the inter band (or whatever they called it) limiters. It puts limiters between the poles on the cross-over, so that the limiting doesn't affect the frequency response as much when some gorrilla mixing at FOH trys to put the voice coils in the front row.

It was a smooth system, but it didn't have a "classic" kind of sound to it. A limitter in front of each amp will probably have more of the sound you are after.
