Teac 80-8 1" conversion?

I have just purchased a Teac 80-8 that was converted I think when new to 1". It has been very well done and sounds great. I remember seeing this option advertised here in the uk in 1978-82 ish in Studio sound. Has anyone else heard of it or got one?

how cool! My first machine was an 80-8 ! I still love the recordings I did with it.
Did you get the optional noise reduction 8 channel thingy?

1" would be cool in something that small.

My 1" machine is 500 lbs stike stike

80-8 pics

I have renovated it cosmetically , although it wasn't bad to start with. I don't know how many of these are around. I will have to go to the library to find out who did the conversion, as the conversion was advertised in the "Studio sound" mag in a box at the back. I have got it going through a Tac 1042 and it sounds great.

Hi The machine is as was and unbalanced. I had it running with a mint brenell mini 8 1" and they were very similar sounding. ie superb big sounding machines with plenty of zazz. I copied some old (81) mother tapes (no dbx) and the copies were A1. amj

amj3359: Any way that you can snap a pict of the heads? To your knowledge, were the motors upgraded when the conversion was done?
