Journey Question?

Everytime I hear Dont Stop Believing, I ask myself what effect they are using on the Piano. Its driving me nuts. Anyone?

Great article in the recent Mix mag on this. Jonathan Cain talks about tempo issues, working to a click and then turning it off and getting the next take.....
Roland Jupiter and Prophet synth (the only thing digital).

Haven't listened to it closely in a while, But I just seem to remember it as being a simple CP-70 piano.

That always sounded like the old trick of using an aux to send some piano signal to a Harmonizer set to just barely off unison, (i.e. detuned just a bit), and blending it back in with the dry signal. It's been used a lot.

I still think that the piano on Don't Stop Believin is a CP-70 or CP-80. He also used it on Who's Cryin Now? Open Arms sounds more like a real piano.

Yes, he always used pianos in addition to synths. He takes a grand piano with him on tours.

Me Too. I think he may be remembering wrong, but if not, they did a great job of making a full piano sounds like a CP-70/80.

CP70/80 with chorus sounds about right. Maybe some harmonizer thrown in as well with a little detune

Great article and amazing classic album.

My first concert was the Journey/Escape tour at Day on the Green, Oakland Coliseum.

harvestmark has got it right. that's an acoustic piano w/ a harmonizer...the original harmonizer, the 910. i used to do that same thing all the time in the early '80's.

Wow, the timing is uncanny then. I'm really getting sick of hearing that song since the finale.... all the parodies from here to the end of time... all will have that song.
