Mix Volume/Loudness Question (feeling stupid...) ?

Hey All,

When bouncing a mix in ProTools using L3 with ceiling at -0.2, i always end up with a VERY LOW level when i listen back to the bounced file...

How do i get my mixes to sound LOUD !?!

Thanks for your compassion...

What's your threshold setting? Slam that sucker until you get the volume you want. But be careful, a little bit goes a long way...

Oh man that's a lot. I ususaly don't use any more than -1.5. Are you getting these mixes mastered?

You should leave the master fader at 0. It sounds to me like there is something wrong with your mix. Try grouping all your faders and raising everything a few db.

Are you using any other plugins? Anything else on the mix buss?

As threshold is dependent on the material it makes no sence telling you where it should be. Gain reduction is another case...for a moderate limiting action pull down the threshold until you get a couple of db's of GR at the peaks....if you want that UBER loud thrashy mater sound, make sure the limiter pumps away at minimum 3 db gain reduction all the way through the quiet parts. It won't sound good though.
