Pop Country EQ

Hello,

I am trying to EQ different instruments for a pop country tune that I am recording. It seems that these tunes have some characteristic sounds in the mix. In the mix I have a violin, drums, guitar, electic bass, piano and vocals. Not extremely busy, but does anyone have any general suggestions as to where to boost and where to cut frequency for instruments in this song style? Thanks,

Hi Jaanestad - for a start, you don't have to follow any rules for "this song style". Do whatever you think sounds good - make you own "song style".

In particular, it's very difficlut to make any suggestions without hearing the recording. The issues of frequency range of different instruments, especially in the mid-range, depend on lots of factors, e,g, the register the instrument is playing in, the tone of the original recording; clean/distored electric guitar, drums played with sticks or brushes....etc.

It's not going to sound right until you call it a fiddle.

I've started doing pop country myself for my own writing. When I heard it I thought pffft, that'll be easy...

After much time I'm getting only closer. The high guitar sound is still illusive to me. Without vocals, I really want to fill the hole in the middle, then it sounds like folk. I can get closer to that gloirious bass sound with a bass POD on "stadium".

It's a struggle for sure.

So, BUMP!

The best advice I've heard in a long time.
