Thread Starter | Looking for some new rock to listen to.
I'm dying for some new rock to listen to. Not pop/punk or emo. I've been listening to Alterbridge and they're pretty cool but not my cup of tea.
What's new that rocks? Ala ACDC, AIC, Zeppelin etc...

I like the latest Cave In a lot - some screaming (they used to be a hardcore band), but not a whole lot. Good melodic rawk. How heavy are you willing to go? I love everything Devin Townsend does - his solo stuff and the Devin Townsend Band is a little more coherent than Strapping Young Lad. The new Mastodon is kickass, too. For cool instrumental stuff, Isis and Explosions in the Sky has new CDs, too
If I knew more bout your tastes I could throw some names atcha. I'm single so all I spend my money on is porn and music. |

Rock, or Metal too?
Another big up for Devin Townsend- he's my favourite artist of all time- everything he has done is not just great, it's astonishing.
Also can recommend Clutch.
Therapy?'s High Anxiety is dating back to 2004 and is excellent- I'm not a fan of their work since returning to a 3 piece though.
Lamb of God are cool.
Eagles of Death Metal.
Anything by Opeth.
Helmet's Size Matters is great- Monochrome isn't nearly as good.
"... and you will know us by the trail of dead" are a cool band- maybe a bit emo-prog for ya though :-)
Dillinger Escape Plan are a great math-core band
Fall of Troy are interesting too.
On another note- how much does the new Ozzy Osbourne suck?
Terrible, terrible album.
I just can't get into Mastadon as a band.

I second the motion for Porcupine Tree: Fear of a Blank Planet is AMAZING. And if you get a chance to catch them live, you won't regret it!

Porcupine Tree?
How is that like AC/DC, AIC, or Zeppelin?
Are we just shouting out random records that we like or something?
Maybe the new QOTSA, when it's released on the 12th, James?

james, i am with you...miss the rock and roll !!
i want to hear some old school-type rock and roll..and not just new versions of old bands...(no offense to Jet or Wolfmother...but its just not new in my ears !!)
i gotta do a shameless plug for a young band i just worked with...king thief out of st.louis. www.myspace.com/kingthiefmusic
i happen to love them. and i am truly a classic rock guy at heart...curious what you think james...as well as anyone else.
also...CLUTCH.....always rocks hard imho. their last record was done with baressi...and its pretty rad !!
anxious for the QOTSA myself...really want to like alterbridge...I LOVED the singer (Miles) when he was in MAYFIELD FOUR. (have you heard that band ? WOW !!!)
check out king thief...i may be a bit biased...but I think they are a great new band...plus they actually have a KILLER live show...whether in front of a few thousand people or 5o people in a club..they rock !!
peace...and good luck on the search for the rock !!

What's new that rocks? Ala ACDC, AIC, Zeppelin etc... | There is really nothing out that sounds that retro. I wish there was
I just heard a new Symphony X song that is kind of like a progressive Dio song. Russell Allen has just about the best voice in Rock. There is not one style the guy cant sing
new song Serpents Kiss is in the link below. Lots of changes in the rhythms as opposed to the 3 chord approach. www.myspace.com/officialsymphonyx |

the main problem I have with the white stripes other than Jacks voice is Megs lousy drumming. I mean I can play drums better than that, and thats not a good thing. Quote:

I love the drum sound on this track - maybe she's not technically the best drummer but leave that to the nerdy P.I.T. peeps..

myspace.com/mywaveuk --- Melodic grunge (?)
myspace.com/thepanicchannel --- Janes Addiction minus Perry Farrell (I guess you know about them)

How about Nick Cave's new band project called "Grinderman".
Some really interesting sounds and it's quite different.
My favorite record so far this year.
Also picked up Powderfinger's new album "Dream Days At The Hotel Existence" and Marilyn Manson's new album "Eat Me, Drink Me". Haven't had a chance to hear either of them yet.
The new Nine Inch Nails "Year Zero" is interesting.
Jesse Malin has got some nice songs on "Glitter In The Gutter". Ryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen make an appearance on this record.
