REAMPING BOX

So I am needing a box to allow me to reamp geetars..I do alot of drum tracking at my place so I was considering the little labs for the phase aligning capabilities. But I don't love coughing up $500.00 if I don't have too. Is the ol standard REAMP box cool? Any secrets to this reamping process?

Gracias

All I know is that the Radial X-amp sounds one helluva lot better than running the Radial JDI backwards...

The original Reamp was improved last year. I have a new one, so I can't comment - other than to say it does the job very well.

Allthough a reversed passive DI box can "pass signal", there is no way it can properly replace a purpose designed transformer. If you think about what a DI box does ... it converts Instrument level down to Mic level. So if you reverse it, it provides a boost. A boost is exactly what you don't need if you are trying to get from a hot balanced line level back down to Instrument level.

IBP is cool. Redeye is cool. Reamp is cool. X-Amp is also cool, and active.

IBP - phase
Redeye - DI
Reamp - cheaper
X-Amp - cheapest

Enjoy! I think a dedicated passive transformer reamp is the safe option, because it provides isolation that can break up ground loop hum. Guitars and amps are afflicted enough with hum already. Also, passive means zero added noise.

Active can often mean added hiss (and hum if you get unlucky). If you have a quality low noise DAC, it's probably much quieter to avoid an active box. A reamp box is basically an attenuator, so any noise from your DAC will be lowered along with the signal.

There might be times when the higher impedance and lack of transformers gives you the sound you want from an active reamp. But i'm happy with my Reamp V2 - I hear more coloration in my DI and preamps than I do thru the Reamp.
