Ensemble or 003 (converter question)

I'm torn.

Just demoed an Apogee ensemble and have been very impressed with the sound, so much so that I prefer its DA to that of my Benchmark DAC.

However, I wanna mix in Protools. Though I have logic, I prefer mixing in Protools and using Logic for composing.

My plan is to get a profire or 1814 and use M-powered but utilise the Ensembles converters through ADAT.

A much cheaper option though is to simply get a 003, but I am concerned about its sound, i.e. converters.

Does anybody have experience with the 003 and Ensemble and can you give me some feedback? Otherwise, can anyone simply comment on the 003's converters?

Cheers.

Just go give the 003 a listen...is there a store near you wher eyou can get a quiet sitdown environment? I don't know how the two compare in sound quality, but I know for a fact the 003 has new converter chips. Rumor has it it's the same chip that Apogee uses in a lot of their units...not to say it'll sound the same though. If you are satisfied with the sound of the ENsemble...jsut go with that and the M-powered option like you said.
