How thick are those? About 5"? They honestly don't look thick enough to go too low. Maybe spacing them off the mounting surface a couple inches could help.

Hey Neil, I agree with you that I would have like them a little thicker, but the room I am in is small enough already. Anyway I've got 12 of these in one small room plus some ceiling treatment as well. The room is now nice and tight sounding. Dave

Hey, they look great! They will work better than nothing. I would like to make some similar this summer. I have a slew of tuned traps I did last summer. They take care of some really low stuff, but I need something for that 80-200Hz range. Little boxy there still. I may use your pics for reference. THanks!

Thanks Neil. I am very happy with the resultsthumbsup . I was going to build a couple super chunk corner traps in addition after this project. But honestly, I don't think that it is neccessary now. Maybe when I get some more time. But being the heavy 8lb rockwool and the abundance of them, they do attack a lot of the Lows. Take care Dave

you should get rock wool / mineral wool in every builder's merchant. you don't need a special brand. every manufacturer should have a product which could be used for broadband traps. (I don't think we should call them bass traps because the are too thin to work in the bass region and also absorb all the mid and highs)

I asked for rock wool ,for mineral wool ,for rigid fiberglass . I even asked specifically for OWENS ,ROXUL ,Knauf and others from the link down below
http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm

I did find some but they were really overpriced or they were asking me for my contractors license

Its been 2 days now and i still can't get it ((

You can always buy it online and pay a little more for shipping. Any port in a storm, right? Look for places that sell Owens Corning 703 or 705. Not that you have to stick with that brand, but those are the types of products you are looking for.

The company that I bought mine from is called Specialty Products and Insulation Company. They have distribution sites in several states, but not Florida. Maybe they service Florida from a different state, and have a truck that routinely comes your direction. It is worth asking. I know for a fact that they sell OC703. They keep it in stock. They have a decent price, too.

Acoustic Panels by ATS Acoustics is where I got mine. A 6-pack of 2" thick 24x48 Roxul 80, which does a better job on low frequencies than Owens Corning is only $72.00 plus shipping. I bought 2 packs, built 6, 2" panels and made 3, 4" bass traps. Room is amazingly tight. In fact, I ended up mixing that last of a 6 song project for a band in the newly treated room and they even commented on how balanced the mix was in comparison to the others.

My DIY bass traps

Lowes lists Roxul on their website but when I tried to special order some for delivery to a local store it was a mess. It turned out that I needed to order bulk quantities as if I was putting up a building. I eventually found a local OC outlet. Never found rock wool around here.

Go to the studio building part of the forum and ask there. That's where I got the lead on the OC703.

Like I said above, try SPI (Specialty Products and Insulation Co.) before getting too frustrated. I bet they have a truck that delivers your way. They have a website (just google it).

Check out http://www.acoustimac.com for DIY traps and more. I do believe they're based out of Tampa, but they do ship everything as well. 6 slabs of 48"x24"x2" OC703 for $78 plus shipping. And they have accessories like wall mounts, frames, and fabric in case you don't have the time or care to really DIY.
