Thread Starter | Anyone using an Aphex 104 Big Bottom
Grabbed one out of a local store used. Adds nice depth to bass gt. Wondering if it's just worth getting Renn Maxx bass or the phex plug for PT HD 3? Tim |

The one and only thing I ever used mine for was for duplicating to cassette, to heighten the bass and treble to overcome the limitations of the cassette medium. Whenever anyone asked about using it for like, anything else, I changed the subject.

Makes my old tube radios sound like guitar amps.

I often find great use for one applied subtly on a drum buss for hip-hop/r&b records. It's been the secret weapon on many a mix where I've been asked, "how did you get the kick to sound like that?!?!?!" and it was the Aphex. Never used one on rock or any other kind of music though. I think it's a cool piece of processing gear so long as you don't abuse it... it gives you a certain sound you can't really get any other way if you want it. But the tune has to call for it.

Got one a a GC/American Music blowout tent sale for $30 a good while ago. I bought it just because it had a knob that said Girth. Using it? Not in a long time. I guess you could find something it could help?.Or just crank it all the way for an effect. |

This unit is great for improving sound module patches. My favorite (highly tweaked) Roland sax patch goes from lame to stellar with the 104. It's also good for improving solo strings patches.
