RME Fireface 800 Question - does yours run really hot?

Hi,

Just picked up a RME 800 and man does it run hot! Almost to the point of if you place your hand you almost need to pull it off...quickly.

If you have one does it run hot to?

Just curious.

Thanks!

Maybe alittle warm, but not as hot as you describe, although mine's in a rack so I don't touch the top of it. I have a space above it free.

only after if it's been on and used for about awhile. but when it gets hot, it does get real hot. i keep a patchbay beneath, and a Funk Logic Digilog Dynamicator right above

if it sits idle, kinda warm to cool almost.

I just got a used RME 400 and it really gets hot, hope it doesn't hurt the interface.

I had 2 RME800 at the same time, and they both run exactly same hot, my friend has Rme800 too and his runs hot too.

My cables get warm too in front.

Its better for it to get hot, seems like its doing lots of processing.

No, it's really not 'better' if anything with circuitry (especially digital circuitry) runs hot. Heat is the worst enemy of electrical components, it makes their specifications wander and shortens their lifespan.

I have a Fireface 800 too, and it runs fairly warm, but not 'baking' hot...

My FF800 runs pretty hot. Leaving an empty space on top of it in the rack really makes a difference, so now I always do that.
