Fisrt mix in the box

Well, I decided to start doing stuff at home, as it is less hassle, and put Nuendo on my $500,- Athlon XP machine to see what i could do.

And I must say, it rocks. I did a better mix at home on headphones of a song I mxed in the studio. So, I'm goign to be doing more of it.

The FXteleporter thing looks really promising as well. It allows you to share another computers CPU resources over a regular network. And since I'm putting a computer in the spare room for the grandson, I'll be able to use it running more plug-ins.

I have some really great spounding plugs that soudn way better than the waves stuff as well.

For post, the Fairlight kicks ass. Same for straight tracking.
But I'm really getting into the Nuendo mixing.
After working on PT's all day at another facility, it's so much more fun using Nuendo. the ability to insert effects on the fly, add tracks, enable record tracks, add bussess, all while the session is playing, really is cool.

Welcome to the club, Henchie!

It's kinda liberating, ain't it?

Watch out for "pluginitis." I caught that sh*t bad.

Nuendo ver. 1 or 2? Thinking of upgrading to ver. 2 now that most of the bugs are out....

Yo Hench, that stuff sounds real nice. I couldn't tell much difference between the two mixes, but the Nuendo mix sounded more "finished" for some reason.

What a set of pipes on that girl. Why does it seem like Canada always has a never ending supply of great female singers?

To anwer a couple of qustions.

1. Nuendo 2.0
2. I've actually deleted a bunch of plug-ins, and have been using stuff from Voxengo, Nomad, and a set of plug's called "Classic Plug-ns". And the only Waves plug-ns I use are the de-esser and the L1 or L2.

I wish I could get someone interested in doing somethign for Jane. She's a really greta person. That song is a first and only take vocal.

Maybe I can get her to expose a breast on TV, or do a really horrendous audition for American Idol.

The main reason I don't like samplitude is you can't put plugins
in on the fly. It hoses their pdc.

If they fix that, I'm switching. It's even better than nuendo editing and featurewise.

it's sickening really to think that the itb mix is that much better.

If you don't have a uad, that will impress you that much more.

The thing I'm the most happy about, is the quality I can get using a $500,- computer.

Henchman,

Thanks for posting a mix. I have seen your posts all over the net expressing your opinions about stuff. Now I know exactly how to interpret them.

Yes, but you left off the first part of that sentence.

Sorry, but Samplitude is where it is at for me for mixing. I have tried them all and I like it the most. Different strokes for different blokes.

I wish Nuendo had a download demo like Samplitude does

umm ... yer right .. I think it's because PT has never been a part of my conciousness .. nor needs to be. But hey .. there's no need to get into the whole PT controversy here ..

I'm curious though .. Would this mean you're contemplating mixing w/Nuendo after tracking and doing your post work in the Fairlight ?

Yes. Use the fairlight for all the main tracking, then take it home and mix. I've also started doing some recording at home, and since we are doign an extensive remodelling, I will have it set-up to have tie lines to our bedroom so i can do vocals etc at home when I want. this is mainly for my personal stuff. When working with other clients, I take them to the studio.

Realised I had already heard your track in the made with nuendo users forum. I dig the song, girl & vibe.

I like what I'm beginning to hear from nuendo guys.

I like the non-Nuendo mix more.
The low-end is weak, though, but the mix feels much better to me.

i think nuendo has one of the best digital engines - its the same like cubase sx 2 ive heard...

but the best results i get by summing the busses of my daw over an analog console.
i get an old allen&heath mixer and it sounds really great
http://reinhard.stuermer.bei.t-online.de/system8.JPG :)
much more open than summed in daw!

I mix with Nuendo 2.1 in the box too, using UAD-1 cards and a bunch of native plugins. I really like it and to me it sounds better than mixing trough a semi pro console plus you have perfect recalls which is important to me.

By the way Henchman, that's a really nice studio you've got there. Like the design.

i do everything in the box like effects fadermoves s.o. - so i get total recall!
i dont even chance the eqs on that console, i leave them in some special positions, that adapt to the typical bus-mixes i always do. uad is not good to me, because these effects cant monitor my inputs in realtime. but today the native stuff like the new sonalkis/psp/voxengo is nearly as good as uad-stuff...

Randall. My reason for this post does not exist anymore. It has been taken care of. It's not worth getting into, but let's just say, for the record, that I did not have any issues with Henchman's comments or opinions. Never have, even if I don't agree.

We will now return to our regularly scheduled discussion...
