Recording an acapella group...

hi my friends' acapella group here in college wanted a recording just so they could hear themselves, so nothing great. But I at least thought this would be a cool project to try and get a decent recording out of.

14 guys. including a lead/soloist and a beat-boxer.

I have two LDC's and two 57's. I was thinking of having the soloist and beatboxer each on a 57 then micing the rest of the group with the two LDC in stereo placed as overheads.

Any suggestions on where to place the group in the room? or any other tips?
The room size it pretty decent size, probably around 36ft by like 18?

With an ensemble of 14, you are right on the edge.

Larger than that, I'd tell you to try an A-B spaced pair - smaller and I'd tell you to do an ORTF near coincident pair...

As far as room set-up goes, let them get situated and then put the mics where you get the best sound - letting them get a good balance so they can blend is the most important thing.
