where are drum samples/drum software that make me go SUPER WOW

title says it all.
lots of nice drum software/samples around these days.
mebe i havent been looking in the right places...
but what i find often is nice sounding drum samples....
but they sound sometimes very natural n boring.
or they are very over processed.
what i'm looking for is when i trigger from a midi track
the resulting drum track i wanna go.....SUPER WOW.
instead of often i go..well thats nice....but dont really crank me to
heights of ecstacy.
anyone know any drum software with samples that has that wow factor ??
without spending oodles of dough on packs n add ons etc ??
cos ive been looking around.

I use EZDrummer (with Vintage Rock and Latin Perc. EZXs) and soon so be using Steven Slates Samples. Both are pre processed so probably not up your alley.

What have you checked out already that didn't blow your skirt up? We don't want to make suggestions to things you've already looked at and went

Drumkit from Hell Superior and Vintage & Custom together with Steven Slate's sample collection are the best thing I've heard so far.

I actually tracked a record, and use those samples on other projects I do more than other sample libraries I have. Something about how the drummer hit his drums, and the tuning.

If you invert the polarity of the WOW! samples, you'll have some really cool SUPER MOM! samples to work with, great for power ballads.

I've been using the Steven Slate drum samples with Sonar/Session Drummer 2. The DVD I received also had the Drumagog files as well. Good stuff in IMHO.

The Steven Slate samples make me go wow. When used correctly, those things sound extremely natural.

my sharona. its a BIG drum sound..ie.not boring.
i dont know who the engr was, but i respect him highly.
that whole dam album is a piece of engineering brilliance imho.

Mr Slate are your drums "hyper-sampled" in the sense that there are multiple hits at each velocity level? If so, what samplers is that supported in? It's a major factor in avoiding machine-gun sounds and creating a more organic picture.

Common velocities should really have half a dozen different hits being chosen randomly, and a snare could have two dozen beneficially at the most common velocities. We have the horsepower, and the cost to produce is only incremental over producing a single sample at that velocity.

Furthermore, a sampler really should model if the drum head or cymbal is at rest or ringing. When it's ringing, there is a sinusoidal function that determines at what point in its period it will be struck by the stick, and that will alter the sound quite a bit. The existing waves on the head or cymbal will interfere with the new ones as well. An experienced drummer knows this at least intuitively...a drum or cymbal that is at rest will usually play louder than one that is still decaying. The math for duplicating this effect is trivial.

I mapped my own EXS24 instruments. It took me a whole day, but they suit exactly my way to work and I didn't want to wait any longer.

To answer a few questions:

Yes the Z4 are the just the room ambiences only and will be available for all the new drums and possibely the old ones as well.

All the drums are multi velocity and multiple hits per velocity, and sound very natural. check out this demo to hear this:

www.stevenslatedrums.com/demo/stevenslate16.mp3

The original poster wanted some WOW samples. The wow factor is very much what I tried to do with this collection and I'd hope that our users would say we acheived it.

Check out his samples, they are "just" one style, but that style KILLS. If I need replacement samples in that style I do not look anywhere else anymore...and he sells his "green drums" at a really, really low price. Too good and too cheap not to have ´em!

Rock on!
Ps - just listen to the demos on his webpage!

I liked that one a lot, and have to ask: What amp are they using?

I think I could get it in 3 guesses, but I just wanna verify.

I actually know exactly what Matt is using here. And I bet you won't get it in three guesses. I'll be back with the answer soon.

My first guess would be ENGL(from the single note riffs), but there's something in the mids that reminds me of a cheaper american amp, but that might be mic induced.

I can understand expense. But look at it this way. How much have you spent on audio plugins? They are at least 200-500 dollars. I think of drum libraries as a similarly useful and necessary tool when it comes to modern mixing. Hell, I'll throw in a free toaster with my hits if that helps.

Yeah that mix is by Matt Krigin, its actually hosted at the alien connections site as well. Cool amp simulator.
