Dark Drum Room Mike For this Room

I have a pretty tight room for drums-with diffusors and absorption mixed with ribbed wooden panneling. (Ok -the blue bag of rigid glass plonked in the corner looks a bit dud). Recently tracked 2 songs, with overheads being Pearlman TM1 (high cut on) and rode NT2000, kick evolution E602, sm 57's on snare and toms. You get the idea in photo.

I decided to use a room mike-used Rode NT3 with gobs of compression through portico 5043.

Really nice sound, very tight and snappy and the overheads gave a real nice soft cymball wash-probably the diffusors reacting.

But NT3 was bit harsh up high although it added a thickness and presence, and I had to really cut away on high frequencies. I really want some suggestions for a mike say US $700.00 that is dark (so when I compress it does not become harsh in the high hats/cymballs) but is also omni so I can put it in a position where I can get the sound of the room-which is really cool in a controlled washed way.

Oh-not keen on ribbons where I then gotta re-ribbon every couple years or so. Thanks guys.

I use my royers on the kick drum, hasnt changed the sound one bit (8-14 inches) so as an overhead I don't think you should really worry about using them anywhere else.

Alot of the cheaper condensors have the bad sizzle that is vexing you. For room mic duties I use an shinybox ribbon which seems to be made just for that purpose. Its the same as an Apex 210 and its like 90 bucks on full compass. AFAIK you dont have to reribbon every 2 years.

You could try a Octava with the omni capsule.

Charter Oaks makes a drum mic designed for small, tight rooms, and it's around $700, I think.
