Which replacement tubes for my Demeter VTMP-2B?

It's tube changing time, as I have noticed a decline in performnce from this pre. Any suggestions as to which brrand to go for or NOS?

Call James (Demeter) at Demeter Amplification and ask him. How old are they? If you get the numbers (ie. 12AX7) from them, call Dave at audioMIDI.com - Your Personal Resource for Computer Music Hardware and Software - he's a reputable dealer for Groove Tubes, and can probably suggest current models that will actually improve performance over the stock ones.

Definitely a better step up than Groove Tubes.

The Groove Tubes Mullard "reissues" are not even close. I think they just printed Mullard over blank Sovtek tubes. dfegad

Big deal.

Buy nos like Mullard, Philips, Telefunken, Valvo, GE, RCA ect.

The link below is from a great nos tube reseller. He can be trusted.

Hey guitoffee,

I have the same pre. How can you tell if the tubes need to be changed? I was thinking about changing out my tubes too. I think the pre, as is now, is pretty sterile. I've tried to use it as a summing pre a couple of times and the results were'nt too desirable. Everything sounded a bit on the smushy side of things. I was thinking about buying some Telefunkens. Can anyone chime in on this if it would be a good choice for summing? Which ones are the best?

I would say smooth plates over ribbed .. ribbed are more for guitar amps
But evenso you cant go wrong over Teles or Mullards They are definitly worth the cost.

Full Set of tubes to upgrade Demeter VTMP-2B

I bought these nice (expensive) tubes for my Demeter, and didn't end up keeping the preamp.

1 Siemens ECC81 (12AT7)
2 Sylvania ECC83 (12AX7A 7025)
2 RCA 12BH7A

Asking $125 shipped (worldwide), which is less than I paid for them.
