RIHANNA'S UMBRELLA

I like this song and can't stop listening to the catchy chorus. Does anyone has some details about the recording/mikes/preamp/production process of this song?

Ella... ella... ella... hey... hey... hey...

Incredibly catchy. I've been diggin on that hook too. It's one of those that sounds so familiar the first time you hear it, you aren't sure if it was gleaned from another song, or if it was an idea you had a long time ago.

I hated her last single. This one rocks rump, dough. Dig the drums on this track, too. It's definitely leaning on the rock side.

I agree this song is incredible. The synths at the end sound like M83.

Pretty cool. Not a huge fan of the lyrics, but definitely catchy. Love the programming though...feels like it has a bit more depth and emotion than your average modern hip-hop/R&B programming. Great grindy synths. I dig it.

The record sounds like those 2 russian lesbians 'Tatu', with a hip hop beat.

It's kind of like driving past a horrible accident and you just can't stop yourself from looking at the carnage! Both the accident and the tune are horrible........enjoy

Love this tune, and the melody hook! theres a travis barker remix floating around also with some guitar and live drums not much of a remix but still cool.

Heres a link

I'm kind of hating it less. The catchy chorus sounds to me like it was cut & pasted in Melodyne with syllables from the verse ...

That has to be the worst part of the song for me. Cant stand phoned in filler rap verses.

When I first hear this song on MTV I thought I heard one of the ELLA repeats fall out of tune, obviously done deliberately, I did a double take because it seemed sooo obvious....I too think the tune is extremely horrible.

I suppose the simplicity of the hook is great. Its just such a stupid song though and that murderer song is really brain numbing stuff too, sung with such emotion about how shes cheating on a guy....what the? Juts don't do it you stupid s#@t.
Im just taking the piss.

Im sure the production and mixes are incredible though, sorry I don't have any advice on that.

Something's right- looking at week 10 at UK number 1.
I dont care if I like it or not... it's good with those figures behind it!

How did this chart in US?

Chart positions don't mean much, especially in the summer.

"Umbrella" may have spent 10 weeks at number one in the UK, yet it's still sold less than "Grace Kelly" by Mika, which was number one for "only" 5 weeks.

the first time I heard it it didn't click for me....a few weeks later it came on the radio and I thought it was great, a little pop gem. I don't know why I didn't get it the first time...it's got a great chorus and a feeling of sincerity in the vocal, plus that crazy "ella/hey" hook...you can watch a group of people when that song comes on and they can't help responding to that...

If I told you how much I love M83 I wouldn't even have time to listen to them.

It's everywhere in the US... don't know chart numbers though. I don't really hate the song, I think with a better vocal arrangement (harmonies, less repetitive) it would be a killer song. The hook is clearly brilliant (maybe lame, but the masses eat it up like candy).

i dont think the tracks suck at all. the production for the umbrella track was good, her voice was damn good, and the lyrics make sense to the point where a person could sing that song to their significant other.

the fact that the hook is catchy should be a plus for the song to reel people in to actually listen to talent. there are only a few female singers deserving of charts right now in my opinion and she is one of them. amy winehouse and joss stone also.

I don't like the rigid autotuning of the vocals nor the way she sings it particularly. But that is one hella catchy chorus. I wish Jay-Z would just piss off though. What the hell does he contribute to the song at all?

His name. that's about it. i'm a big jay fan but he kinda fukked that one up. he didn't even rhyme on topic. but him putting his name on the record was supposed to help market the song i guess
