Anyone with Experience building an Iso-booth?

Alright, I'm a sucks**t singer who is trying to record himself at home, being poor and extremely self-conscious about my vocals. And the place I live in, more like high-rise "cages" where your neighbour can actually hear what TV channel you are watching. Wish I had a house and a garage like some of you......

I knew about Whisperroom and its rivals years ago, and were wishing one day they could come up with a version that is less than 1/3 the price.

Then recently I came across these:

http://www.dawbox.com/DAWBOOTH.htm

Anyone know this guy? Is it for real that one can actually build a functional iso-booth that won't break the bank? Even one without any carpentry or masonry experience?

Don't know anything about DAWBOOTH - there wasn't a whole lot of actual info that I could find on the website. But, having just finished building a two-room basement studio, I can tell you that it seems pretty unlikely that you can build something that will actually work as easily as he's claiming. The bottom line is, to stop sound you need mass and decoupling from the structure, which means a lot of material (for the mass) and some particular construction techniques (for the decoupling). Which in turn means money (for the material) and time (to build it properly). Which isn't to say you can't do it yourself, but it's gonna take more than an afternoon and a couple hundred bucks.

A great source of info on construction techniques for sound-isolation is http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php. There's a ton of useful info there if you're willing to wade through it.
