Converter/Interface upgrade delima.

My current interface is a motu original 2408/1224 on pci 324 and I'm in need of a serious upgrade. I currently monitor my inputs through an 01v for no latency.

I want to sell all of the above and step up quite a bit. I have decided not to use a mixer for monitoring, so my interface/converters must have this capability, along with low latency for soft synths.

My delima is this. The Fireface 800 will do what I need it to do, but at around $1500, the Lynx aurora stuff starts to look pretty good. Is there a big quality difference between the two?

If I went the aurora route, I could go with a less expensive adat only interface, but then I'm not which one, or how much it would be, and would I just be better of with the fireface anyway. Would that type of interface with the Lynx still give me the monitoring and low latency I need, etc.

The kicker is that my ultimate goal over time is to purchase a nice analog console and mix OTB, so I will eventually need 16-24 outputs.

I'm leaning toward going with the Fireface at first and then just adding what I need as I go. But..............

Any advise here would really be helpful.

Oh yea, I could just add a Mytek ADC96 for critical input channels, and then add another fireface when I go analog. The options are endless.

Thanks.

The Lynx Aurora is definitely a huge step up from a FF. I will tell you with firsthand knowledge that I believe it sounds every bit as good as a Prism does (and I owned and used an ADA8 for 4 years).

Buy a Presonus Central Station to handle your monitoring duties (you can always improve on that piece down the road if you want to step up to a CraneSong or Dangerous solution).

I would suggest the Aurora16 with an AES16 interface card. Rock solid, sounds great, can't go wrong.

Does the AES16 have "cue mix" monitoring software for monitoring the Aurora inputs?

Thanks.
